ABOUT

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”- Walt Disney

I’m Steve Winsett.

Starting from a small studio above a bar in the deep south, to being one of the most valued artists and leader in the film industry, I deliver value, and inspiration to people every chance I get. To encourage people to make more, craft more, to Art Harder.

I was introduced to art as a profession in my early twenties.

I’d toyed with art all my life, and didn’t even realize it. Legos, Comics, Music- It all influenced how I saw the world growing up. That things can be built from nothing, that hereos exist, and a tune can change the room. It wasn’t until later in life I found it to be my calling. Hell, I went through my teens full of angst and spitfire- thinking I was going to be a mechanic or engineer.

I had taken up sculpting and painting in my twenties as a hobby. I had friends attending SCAD, that did the same and I fell for it. When I wasn’t working as a bartender I was in my studio above a nightclub, sculpting anything that came to mind. Then, I distinctly remember the moment I wanted to do something more. I was on a couch, beverage in hand, watching John Carpenter’s The Thing for the first time. That moment changed my life forever. I wanted to craft, sculpt, build these incredible creatures. Create those moments that terrified and shocked us.

And so it began- from two colleges, to moving to Los Angeles. I came out to my first job in the industry, sculpting for Disney World. A bitter sweet moment, as I was sculpting the Finding Nemo ride, that would replace my favorite- 30,000 Leagues Under The Sea. But! It started off 20 years of Makeup FX, Art Department, Live Events, Show Running, and so much more.

Through all those years, I found a common thread of what I enjoyed more than anything else. I enjoyed helping people bring their ideas to life. On weekends and nights, I would dive in to help friends and coworkers bring their own vision to life. I’ve got an eye for being organized, and forward thinking which has helped me, and others throughout the years to see seemingly massive projects come to life.

Whether it’s building beautiful art in the desert, bringing a creature to life, or filming an incredible scene- I love to make. I love the look of wonder from someone who’s inspired.
